Crime Prevention

The department provides law enforcement services for the city of El Segundo. Services include abandoned vehicle reporting, crime prevention, animal control, emergency protective orders, law enforcement complaints, municipal police, and temporary restraining orders services. The service area is restricted to the city of El Segundo.

Temporary restraining order assistance is provided on a short term (72 hrs.), emergency basis only. Regular TROs must be applied for at a Superior Court location.

Staff investigates and takes appropriate action in reported cases of law violations including child abuse/neglect. The agency also maintains a specialized juvenile bureau for the investigation and resolution of situations which involve minors, and also maintains a community relations division.

Animal control services include investigation of reports of animal cruelty or neglect, the rescue and sheltering of stray and lost animals, picking up dead animals, reuniting owners and lost pets, making homeless animals available for adoption by the public, as well as providing licenses for dogs and registration for cats.
