Crime Victim Accompaniment Services
Provider: UCLA MEDICAL CENTER - SANTA MONICA - RAPE TREATMENT CENTER
The center provides sexual assault services for people of all ages in Los Angeles County. Services include 24-hour emergency medical care and evidentiary examinations for sexual assault, crisis intervention, advocacy and accompaniment, ongoing counseling and psychotherapy, information and referral, support services for people who have been sexually assaulted, and technical assistance for professionals. The center also provides a comprehensive treatment program for children who are victims of sexual assault called Stuart House (see the separate entry for details). There are no geographic restrictions.
The crisis line provides immediate crisis assessment and referrals for medical, mental health and other social services.
Mental health services include on-site crisis counseling, and a short term psychotherapy program including individual, group and family counseling sessions. Referrals are available for long term therapy. Staff provide advocacy and accompaniment through medical, police and court procedures. Staff may also act as an expert witness in court and legislative hearings.
Community education and awareness services include prevention and awareness programs for community or civic groups, a sexual abuse and assault prevention program for secondary schools, and a sexual harassment awareness and prevention program for middle schools and a national campus rape program for colleges and universities.
Training programs are available about sexual assault and the needs of survivors for medical, mental health, law enforcement, and criminal justice personnel. Rape prevention and awareness programs for community or civic groups can also be arranged.
