Head Start Sites

Options provides early childhood education services through the federal Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Services include early head start, early childhood education, head start and preschools. The program includes the classroom or center-based program, the home-based program, and the handicapped/special needs services program for children whose families meet federal poverty guidelines. There are no geographic restrictions for preschool.

Head start services are for families with children ages three to four; it is restricted to residents of Covina, Diamond Bar, Eagle Rock, Glendora, Highland Park, Irwindale, La Puente, Monrovia, San Gabriel, South El Monte, Temple City, Walnut and West Covina.

Early head start services are for families with children ages zero to three; it is restricted to residents of the Rowland and West Covina unified school districts.

Early Head Start is a center and home-based program that uses parent-educators who visit each enrolled family on a weekly basis; the parent-educator and parent together plan activities for the child. A full day program is offered for parents who are working or participating in job training.

Children who have disabilities may participate in the program, regardless of income; those children may enroll in a center-based or home-based program. An individual educational plan is designed for each child in the program in coordination with the school district or regional center; services are then provided to meet those needs.
