The center is a Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Southern California that serves veterans who have been discharged or released from active military service under conditions other than dishonorable. Services include brain injury rehabilitation, dental care, emergency room care, inpatient and outpatient medical care, inpatient mental health, inpatient rehabilitation for blindness, spinal injury rehabilitation, and stroke rehabilitation. There are no geographic restrictions.

To qualify for inpatient rehabilitation for blindness the veteran must be legally blind in both eyes. Care and treatment is provided at the Major Charles Soltes Blind Rehablitation Center (BRC) on the Long Beach VA campus.

The center also provides social, recreational and support services for patients that may include peer counseling, support groups, picnics, sports events, and pot-lucks.

Respite care is provided to veteran caregivers for at least 30 days per year. Services must be arranged through the VA case manager.

VA Whittier/Santa Fe Springs is an outpatient clinic which provides the following services: Primary Care, Diabetes Management, Psychiatry/Psychology, Lab and Glucometer Services, EKG/Spirometry, Blood Pressure Screening, Pharmacy Processing, Immunizations, Disease Prevention/Education, and Patient Registration.

VA Dental Insurance Program (VADIP) is a reduced-cost option for dental insurance for individuals who are enrolled in the VA Healthcare program or the Civilian Health and Medical Program (CHAMPVA). Benefits are administered either through Delta Dental or MetLife. Clinics who accept this insurance vary.

All separated service members with an 'honorable' discharge status are eligible for benefits based on their disability status. Separated service members with a discharge status of 'other than honorable' or 'bad conduct' discharges may be eligible if they sustained injury or aggravated existing injury while serving. The local Veteran Affairs Regional Office can be contacted regarding such situations.
