Specialized Information and Referral
Provider: HEALTHCARE AND ELDER LAW PROGRAMS
The program provides services for older adults age 50 and older and their family and friends who live in Los Angeles County. Services include elder law counseling, specialized information and referral and workshops. The program does not provide direct legal representation, personal legal advice or funding. There are no geographic restrictions.
Elder law counseling includes a private 1/2 hour consultation with a volunteer attorney to address specific questions on topics which can include, but are not limited to, powers of attorney, wills and trusts, medical treatment desires, paying for long-term care, Medicare/Social Security/Medi-Cal, and estate administration.
Workshops include free classes conducted by the volunteer elder law attorney, staff members, and guest speakers and are open to anyone. Topics include estate planning, Medi-Cal for single and married persons, long-term care insurance, staying in charge of your medical care and finances, and consumer issues and the older adult. Mini classes may be arranged for community members, and groups of 25 or more. Presentations and resources are available to community groups, churches, and governmental entities for health and resource fairs.
A free 30-minute presentation regarding issues that impact older adults; and services available to older adults and their families may be arranged.
