Eviction Prevention Legal Assistance
Provider: CITY OF NORWALK - SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT
The program provides legal services for people who live in Norwalk. Services include certificate/forms assistance, eviction assistance, individual advocacy, mediation, and paralegal counseling. Age restrictions apply to some services and services are restricted to Norwalk residents.
Assistance and advocacy with forms and policies related to Social Security, welfare, and unemployment.
Income tax preparation and state homeowner and renter claim form assistance is provided to low income people. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is available from February to April.
Mediation services are available to persons that reside primarily in Norwalk. The agency handles landlord/tenant disputes, consumer/merchant disputes, small claims disputes, business disputes and neighbor to neighbor disputes.
Paralegal counseling is available to low-income Norwalk residents who are legal residents of the United States. Paralegal counseling topics may include family law, divorce, child custody, guardianship, suits for medical debts, wage garnishment, government benefits appeals for Welfare, unemployment, social security, SSI, Medi-Cal and Medicare.
