The department provides law enforcement services for the city of Downey. Services include abandoned vehicle reporting, adult fingerprinting, crime prevention, law enforcement complaints, municipal police, neighborhood watch programs, and temporary restraining order assistance services. The service area is restricted to the city of Downey.

Fingerprinting is available for adult employment and citizenship/immigration identification and background checks.

Temporary restraining order assistance is provided on a short term (72 hrs.), emergency basis only. Regular TROs must be applied for at a Superior Court location.

Fees
There are some fees for services. Fingerprinting is $12.00 per card. Police reports are $9.00; traffic accident reports are $9 and incident reports are $4. Vehicle impounds are $153; DUI vehicle impounds are $224. Citation sign-offs are $17. Local records checks are $15; subpoena for records are $15. Civil subpoena for witnesses are $275 per day for sworn witnesses and $280 per day for non-sworn witnesses. Public records requests are $4.
