Municipal Police
Provider: CITY OF LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT - VALLEY TRAFFIC DIVISION
The department provides law enforcement services for the City of Los Angeles. Services include abandoned vehicle reporting/removal, crime prevention, drug crime reporting, human trafficking prevention, law enforcement complaints, municipal police, and emergency protective orders. The service area is restricted to the City of Los Angeles.
Temporary restraining order assistance services are on a short term (72 hrs.) emergency basis only. Regular TRO's must be applied for at a Superior Court location.
The department provides crime prevention through community education presentations and technical assistance. Presentations include rape prevention for women, personal safety for youth and programs for senior citizens. Programs for youth are presented in schools and focus on school and traffic safety. Programs for seniors are presented at local senior citizen centers and include information about bunco and fraud prevention as well as safety awareness. The department also provides business and residential security evaluation for people whose property has been burglarized.
The VINE program is a computer-based telephone program offered for domestic violence victims in the City of Los Angeles as well as Los Angeles County. It provides information and notification about inmates custody status. Individuals may register up to two phone numbers for an automated notification call when a specific inmate is released or transferred. The program will attempt to call every half hour for 24-hours; calls may come in the middle of the night.
An anonymous drug crimes reporting hotline is available for individuals who wish to report possible narcotic activity. Staff accept and track complaints and will refer them to the appropriate jurisdiction if necessary.
The LA Metro Task Force on Human Trafficking is made of federal, state, county and local police agencies and works to reduce and prevent human trafficking.
The Asian Crime Unit enhances basic police functions while preventing barriers in communication during the performance of these duties in the Asian community. It also promotes social awareness in the community and assists with social problems by referring those in need of services to community service centers for assistance.
