Physical Fitness

The agency provides recreational programs for people of all ages who live in the San Fernando Valley area who become members. Services include day camps, parent/infant exercise classes, physical fitness, recreational/leisure instruction, recreational activities, residential camp programs, swimming, therapeutic aquatics, community centers, and Y facilities. Service is restricted to the mid-San Fernando Valley, including the communities of Encino, Sherman Oaks, and Van Nuys.

The Y offers a variety of recreational, fitness and family supportive programs. The recreational activities include tutoring with homework, a parent/child Indian Guide program for families of youth in kindergarten through grade three. Various youth clubs and sports are available; programs for youth include arts and crafts, ballet, aerobics, cartooning and drawing, hip hop dance, basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, tae-kwando and karate.

Fitness programs include classes in aerobics, cardiovascular and strength training, group exercise programs, health and nutrition programs, swimming, teen fitness and therapeutic aquatics for people with arthritis. The facilities include a conditioning center, a cardiovascular center, a group exercise studio, a heated indoor pool and indoor basketball courts. Child care is provided for adult members who use the Y facilities.

The agency also offers day and residential summer and school holiday camping opportunities. A week-long residential camp is available in the summer.
