Refugee Resettlement Services
Provider: INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF LOS ANGELES - IMMIGRATION LEGAL SERVICES DIVISION
The agency provides immigration services to individuals in Los Angeles County. Services include refugee resettlement services. There are no geographc restrictions.
Refugee resettlement services link refugees overseas with local families or friends, called local ties, who are willing to provide help to resettle refugees. Case workers work with the local ties to let them know when the refugees will arrive, give resettlement grants to newly arrived refugees, provide orientation, and ensure that new refugees find adequate housing.
Resettlement services include pre-arrival counseling, sponsorship of refugees and immigrants, post-arrival services and referrals for health, education and employment.
Immigration services include information, advice and guidance for refugees and their families, immigrants, visa seekers and people seeking naturalization, who are inquiring about benefits due them under the law or procedures for obtaining student, visitor or refugee status.
Assistance is available for people who are seeking permanent residency or citizenship, adjustment of legal status and legal assistance for problems related to family reunification.
Secondary services for refugees include case management, vocational and job training/placement, English as a Second Language, child care and transportation assistance. Refugee job placement services are provided at the Glendale and El Monte Immigration and Legal Services office. See the separate entry for details.
