Psychiatric Disorder Counseling

The clinic provides outpatient psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, crisis intervention, case management, support, and socialization services primarily for adults age 18 and older who have a serious and persistent mental disability and/or are experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis who live in Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Downey, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Montebello and Norwalk. The agency also offers support groups for chronically mentally ill people.

Staff can evaluate clients for involuntary and voluntary hospitalization, medication, and ongoing treatment needs and can provide limited group therapy, medication, and case management, as appropriate. In addition, staff can evaluate people who are in crisis, provide crisis intervention, and refer those who are not appropriate for ongoing services either at the agency or to other community resources.

The agency also provides a Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) to provide services and support to mental health clients who are in recovery and no longer need intensive mental health services. The agency offers self-help mental health support groups; peer to peer support groups; social/recreational activities; medication evaluation and support services; employment and education services, and integrated services and support for co-occurring disorders, such as substance abuse.

In addition the centers provide physical health screenings, and assistance with referrals to health care providers. The program also provides healthy living and health management education. Referrals are given for, housing possibilities, benefit maintenance and short term or crisis mental health services.
