The Workforce Investment and Opportunity Board provides WIOA Programs and administers a network of WorkSource Centers that provide comprehensive employment services for job seekers and employers in the County of Los Angeles. WIOA programs offer three levels of employment acquisition support including Core, Intensive and Training Services. The veterans program is available to recently discharged veterans (4years or less). Some services have federal prerequisites. Service availability may be affected by funding. Individuals should call to confirm services.
Core services include access to the job assistance center equipped with computers, printers, faxes and phones. The centers also provide access to the EDD Cal Jobs database on which a person may search for job listings, and may also post a job resume. In addition, job seekers may research the job market for in-demand skills and occupations; research specific industries or companies; and to find the cost and performance rating for approved training schools. All customers are eligible for an initial assessment and assistance in establishing eligibility for public benefits, and other support services.
Intensive Services are provided for persons age 18 and older who were not able to secure employment via core services including who are unemployed or underemployed, including special populations such as people with disabilities, migrant and seasonal workers and older adults; dislocated workers, including displaced homemakers; and veterans. Intensive services include case management, group or individual counseling, job search/placement services, and pre-job guidance.
Training Services are provided by the center if the customer is not able to obtain employment by means of the intensive services described above, or whose income has not reached the level of self-sufficiency. Qualifying training services may include adult education, employee customized training, entrepreneurial training, job readiness training, literacy instruction, occupational skills training, on-the-job training, or skills upgrading. The center establishes an individual training account in which a voucher is issued to the customer for one of the qualifying training categories. The customer has the choice of training agency. In addition to the training voucher the center may pay for supportive services.
