Spouse/Intimate Partner Abuse Prevention
Provider: PEACE OVER VIOLENCE
The program provides domestic violence services for women in Los Angeles County. Services include a 24 hour hotline, information and referral, spousal abuse counseling, spousal abuse prevention and a teen abuse prevention program. There are no geographic restrictions.
The 24-hour hotline provides confidential, trauma informed crisis intervention supportive services to all victim/survivors, including child sexual assault, incest, intimate partner violence and rape. Information about and referrals to medical, legal, mental health, and other related resources are provided. Crisis and supportive telephone counseling are available for survivors and their significant others; advocacy with other agencies; case management; accompaniment to the hospital, law enforcement agencies or court, and short-term in-person peer counseling for survivors can also be arranged.
Domestic violence counseling for abused individuals can be individual or in a group session.
The prevention program works in collaboration with community agencies. Prevention Services include speakers who present information for groups about the reality of battering, the myths that contribute to the victimization of the survivor, the services offered to survivors, the legal procedures involved, the healing process for victims. The teen abuse prevention project, In Touch With Teens, teaches junior and senior high school teens ages 13 to 17 years, how to build violence free relationships and how their relationships are affected by other influences.
