Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers

Provider: CITY OF BURBANK - BURBANK HOUSING

The program is a local public housing authority that administers the Federal Section 8 rental assistance program for very low-income people. In addition, staff can provide information regarding other affordable housing resources in Burbank, and information on the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants. There are income and geographic restrictions.

Assistance is based on funding from the federal government; assistance may not always be available.

The Section 8 program provides housing vouchers which enable very low-income renters to have their rent subsidized. Applicants must meet federal income guidelines and priority is given to Burbank residents. Preference is given to people who have been displaced by government action, veterans and people with disabilities. People who receive vouchers locate their own housing within 120 days; the housing must meet decent, safe, and sanitary standards. Housing Authority subsidizes the difference between 30% of the family's adjusted income and the payment standard. Subsidy payments are made directly to the contracting landlords and tenants' eligibility is reassessed annually.
