Spouse/Intimate Partner Abuse Counseling

Provider: CITY OF WEST COVINA POLICE DEPARTMENT

The victim assistance program provides domestic violence services for battered women in the West Covina area. Services include accompaniment services, individual advocacy, mutual support groups, personal financial management counseling, specialized information and referral for domestic violence services such as shelter, and spousal abuse counseling for battered women. A Certified Domestic Violence Counselor provides services. A victim of domestic violence may call for assistance or be referred by the police department. The counselor meets with the battered woman to outline a program based on her individual needs. If the woman needs someone to go to court with her, the counselor will provide accompaniment, and will assist in filling out forms and statements. Referrals can be made to shelter, lawyers, ongoing support groups and other community services.
