Residential Security Evaluations

Provider: LONG BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT - NORTH PATROL DIVISION

The police department provides law enforcement and crime prevention services for people who live in the city of Long Beach. Services include abandoned vehicle reporting, business security evaluations, charitable solicitation permits, crime prevention, juvenile delinquency diversion counseling, law enforcement complaints, municipal police, neighborhood watch programs, pre-employment background checks, pre-employment fingerprinting, residential security evaluations, speakers/speakers bureaus, tattoo removal, and temporary restraining order assistance services. Services are restricted to the city of Long Beach.

Temporary restraining order assistance is provided on a short term (72 hrs.), emergency basis only. Regular TROs must be applied for at a Superior Court location.

Permits for charitable solicitation, and other business permits may be obtained through the business desk of the Police Department; however, certain groups must also obtain a City Business license at City Hall, prior to receiving the police permit. These groups include adult book stores; amusements such as bowling alleys, public card rooms and pool halls; clubs selling coupon books; curb painters; door to door solicitors; massage establishments; fortune tellers; and bingo gaming. Taxi and tow truck drivers must be fingerprinted and have a police permit, but do not require a business license.

Pre-employment fingerprinting and background checks are also provided by the permit division. Clearance letters, police reports and Livescan fingerprinting are also available.

Speakers are available, on request, who can present information about home and business security, forgery, and fraud; a program designed to increase the awareness of school children about safety utilizes a talking squad car; and the department also works with groups of people who live in communities to organize and maintain Neighborhood Watch programs.

Erase the Past is a tattoo removal service. Participants trade community service for tattoo removal. Participants must live in Long Beach; be between the ages of 14 and 25; have no record of gang activity within the previous six months.
