Provider: CENTER FOR HEALTH CARE RIGHTS

The agency provides advocacy services in regard to health insurance for Los Angeles County residents. Services include individual advocacy, health insurance information/counseling, legal representation, and medicare information/counseling. Services are targeted to older adults and individuals who have disabilities. The program also serves Veterans who may be having difficulty getting their Medicare benefits. There are no geographic restrictions.

The project empowers older adults and individuals with disabilities to use Medicare, Medi-Cal and other health benefits, make informed health care choices and take appropriate steps to resolve issues related to their health care coverage and protect their rights.

Services also include information and advice about appealing denials of Medicare claims and full legal representation at administrative hearings. In addition the agency provides printed materials about Medicare. Staff specialists generally provide information and counseling over the phone. Volunteer counselors regularly provide outreach services at senior centers and other locations on different aspects and problems of Medicare.
