Health Care Referrals (Prostate Cancer)
The program provides health services for low income uninsured and underinsured women in California. Services include a cancer detection program, and health care referrals for breast and cervical cancers, and health care referrals for prostate cancer. There are no geographic restrictions.
The program includes a telephone referral line that pre-determines a woman's eligibility for the free program and provides a list of doctors in her area that will provide the appropriate screening services. Eligibility includes: age 40 or older for mammograms; age 25 or older for Pap smears; low income; services not covered by any other insurance or Medi-Cal; or an insurance with an unusually high deductible. The low income requirement is described at 200% of the federal poverty level. The service is restricted to California residents.
The State cancer detection program also provides a Prostate Cancer Treatment Program for men who are California residents, 18 or older, who have a diagnosis of prostate cancer, have low income, have no medical insurance, and do not qualify for Medicare or Medi-Cal.
