Housing Discrimination Assistance

Provider: FAIR HOUSING FOUNDATION

The agency provides legal services related to housing for residents of designated cities in Los Angeles County. Services include housing discrimination assistance and landlord/tenant dispute resolution. Geographic restrictions apply. Services are restricted to Bellflower, Compton, Downey, Gardena, Huntington Park, Long Beach, Lynwood, Norwalk, Paramount and South Gate. Geographic restrictions apply.

The program accepts and investigates individual complaints of illegal housing discrimination based on color, race, religion, sex, age, marital and familial status, sexual orientation, national origin/ancestry, mental and physical disabilities, physical characteristics, gender identity, or source of income. A preliminary determination is made regarding the nature of the complaint, the caller is given information about possible solutions, and a referral may be made to HUD or Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) to litigate the complaint.

A landlord/tenant program provides information for tenants, owners or managers who have rental problems. Counselors suggest methods callers may use to resolve conflicts. The foundation also provides free workshops for tenants, landlords and property managers.
