Adult State/Local Health Insurance Programs

The agency administers health insurance plans nationwide and serves low-income, Medi-Cal eligible families, individuals, seniors, and families with children who are not eligible for Medi-Cal in Los Angeles County. Services include adult state/local health insurance programs, children's state/local health insurance programs, health insurance/dental coverage, general health insurance information/counseling, Medicaid and Medicaid applications, and Medicare Advantage Plan enrollment. Income restrictions apply; there are no geographic restrictions.

Medical advice and consultation is available through the Nurse Advice Line for plan members.

Private plans as well as Covered California plans are available.

Medicare plans are for people who qualify for both Medicaid and Medicare; also known as Dual Eligibles.

The agency enrolls families without health insurance in the California State Healthy Families program; see the separate entry. To qualify, families with children must not be eligible for Medi-Cal or have any other private insurance.

People who have enrolled in Medi-Cal through DPSS may opt to enroll in the Medi-Cal managed health care program. There are also managed health care options for people who qualify for Medicare.
