Senior Ride Programs
Provider: CITY OF MANHATTAN BEACH PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT - MANHATTAN BEACH DIAL-A-RIDE
The agency provides curb to curb regular Dial-A-Ride transportation services for Manhattan Beach residents who are age 55 and older, or who have physical, mental or developmental disabilities, regardless of age, including temporary disabilities. Services include disability related transportation and senior ride programs. Some services are restricted to the Manhattan Beach city limits.
Riders must be able to care for themselves and understand ride procedures or have a caretaker with them.
Three 10 to 20-passenger, air-conditioned, wheelchair lift-equipped vans are available to transport eligible people to the grocery store, medical appointments, recreational and social activities, or personal business within Manhattan Beach city limits.
In addition, the program provides an outside the city Dial-A-Ride service for residents age 55 and older and for residents who have disabilities which features curb-to-curb transportation to limited medical facilities in the cities of Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Torrance. The driver assists riders in and out of the vehicle but is not ordinarily able to accompany riders to the door or assist with packages.
Riders must be ambulatory; people who use canes, wheelchairs or walkers are eligible, but the service is not appropriate for people who have extremely limited mobility. Guide dogs, but not pets, are allowed on the bus.
Riders who habitually cancel or who fail to notify the Dial-A-Ride office for cancellations are refused continuing service. With prior approval, people who are not eligible for the program can accompany riders.
