Transitional Housing/Shelter

Provider: NEW LIFE BEGINNINGS

The program provides shelter for ten pregnant women 18 years and older who are in Los Angeles County. Residents may stay as long as they need, provided they stay focused on the goals made when they enter the program. The program is able to accommodate pregnant women with children or pregnant women who abuse alcohol or drugs, but must be clean at time of application. Residents may apply for service one time only. There are no geographic restrictions.

There is a 90 day probationary period. Residents are required to participate in case management; attend church on Sunday and bible study 5 nights a week; assist with daily chores; and observe a 5:00pm curfew, wake-up times and program rules which prohibit the use of alcohol and drugs. Counseling is available.

Three meals are provided daily; residents prepare the meals in group cooking sessions.

Residents are also required to participate in a budgeting program that involves saving a percentage of their income.

Individuals are encourage to discover and develop life goals, learn new and healthy ways of making life decisions, attend school and work toward a career that will empower support a family. There are no cell phones and smoking is not allowed.
