Group Counseling

Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH - LONG BEACH CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PROGRAM

The program provides outpatient mental health services targeted to children ages 3 to 25 and their families who are indigent or Medi-Cal, CalWORKs, or GROW recipients and living in the Long Beach service area. Services include clinical psychiatric evaluation, crisis intervention, group counseling, individual counseling, and psychiatric medication monitoring. There are no geographic restrictions.

Clinical psychiatric evaluation services, group counseling, and individual counseling focus on evaluating and counseling children and youth who have moderate to severe emotional and behavioral difficulties. Services are designed to include the entire family. Potential clients are evaluated on their present condition, family history, family dynamics, and other factors. Families, custodial families, or guardians are required to accompany the child or youth to service and participate in counseling and treatment sessions.

The agency has two psychiatrists on staff who evaluate patients and determine if the patients need medication support services. If needed, the psychiatrist prescribes and monitors psychiatric medication.
