Provider: CANCER SUPPORT COMMUNITY - GREATER SAN GABRIEL VALLEY
The agency provides health education services for individuals in Los Angeles County. Service include disease/disability information, health education, health/disability related counseling, and wellness programs. CSC-Pasadena serves the area Foothill and San Gabriel Valley areas of Los Angeles County, however, there are no geographic restrictions.
The program focuses on assisting Community Members to deal with the loss of hope, loss of control and loneliness as well as the physical and emotional problems they may be experiencing. Ongoing groups for specific types of cancer focus on areas like stress management and pain control, visualization and relaxation, or nutrition and cooking.
In addition to support group and counseling, the community provides various educational programs which are open to anyone who has cancer, their significant others and caregivers. Workshops on topics like "Ask the Doctor/Expert," exercise, biofeedback and journal writing are held regularly; discussions with health care specialists are scheduled periodically; and social/recreational activities are frequently offered.
A literature area is also available for anyone and contains materials about programs and other resources related to cancer and recovery.
