Extended Child Care (Physical Disabilities)

The center provides services for people with disabilities. Services include day camps, extended day care, recreational activities/sports and specialized information and referral. The center serves people who live in East and Northeast Los Angeles, Alhambra, City of Commerce, El Monte, Montebello, Monterey Park, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs and Whittier.
The center provides a variety of therapeutic, recreational and support programs for people who have physical and developmental disabilities, primarily for children, teens and young adults. Services available include information and referral; after school day care; teen and adult recreational programs; and summer camping activities.
Information about and referral to needed community resources, especially to agencies that provide services for people who are disabled, is available by phone and in person.
Programs for youth include after school day care for children and teens age 5 to 22; to be eligible a child's parents must be enrolled in school or must be employed. Day care participants attend five days per week and are involved in a variety of activities like athletics, arts and crafts, singing, cooking and community excursions. A summer/holiday day camp provides similar activities one month per year and during some school vacations.
Additional programs offered by the center include a Friday night recreational and social activities group for people age 13 to 25; teens attend athletic events and participate in other community excursions. A group of young adults age 16 to 25 meet on Saturdays and participate in programs and activities designed to develop independent living skills and to promote socialization.

Application Procedure
Call or walk in to apply. People may self refer or be referred by an agency like the Regional Center.
Fees
There is no fee for information and referral. Regional Center may refer and fund the attendance of some after school day care participants; the fee for private pay clients is set on a sliding scale based on family income and size.
