Cooking Classes

The agency provides health education for women of all ages in Los Angeles County. The program utilizes community-based facilities for its programs and services. Services include breast and cervical cancer education and awareness; cooking classes that emphasize nutrition and physical activity; diabetes prevention; HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention; physical fitness; mutual support groups; and a mentoring program. Services are targeted, but not restricted, to African American women. The focus of the agency is to improve the health and general well being of African American women by offering support and empowerment, education and awareness. There are no geographic restrictions.
The Kitchen Divas cooking program is designed to teach culinary skills using healthful food choices. It is an interactive program, and promotes social support for good nutrition. The cooking sessions are accompanied by breaks for physical fitness activity.
The agency sponsors a supportive website that encourages ongoing virtual communication and networking.
The agency promotes gatherings to encourage African American women to discuss their sexuality and HIV/AIDS related issues. Parties are by invitation only and discussions are open, honest, and realistic.
The Diabetes Prevention Program meets weekly for 16 weeks, then twice per month for eight months. Participants learn about making healthier eating choices, increasing physical activity and losing weight.
Mutual support groups are provided for women to come together and discuss health issues and life experiences.
