Provider: LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE - TRADES TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNITY LEARNING
Specialized services include an ESL Office; services for students who have disabilities; and a center for learning assistance. Support services for all students include academic, career, and personal counseling; financial assistance; health services; childcare; and job placement assistance.
The program also provides vocational education in a variety of industrial occupations and trades. Classes consist of lecture and lab to develop practical skills in fields such as air conditioning/refrigeration, auto body, auto mechanics, aviation maintenance, cabinet/furniture making, carpentry technology, CNC - computer numerical control, diesel mechanics, horticulture, machine tool technology, sheet metal, and welding technology. The courses are part of a two-year certification program. The length of the program varies from 40 to 55 units of study.
The ESL office provides ESL classes. ESL classes are conducted at all levels of proficiency. The courses are nine weeks in length.
The Learning Center provides individualized instruction to improve adult basic educational skills such as reading, spelling, vocabulary, and math in preparation of the college placement examination as well as GED tests. The Child Study Center offers classes for parents and child development students and a preschool program for young children of students. The Women's and Men's Resource Center offers support and career guidance services for individuals who are returning to school after a period of absence. The Senior Studies Program offers credit and non-credit classes for older adults age 55 and older to enhance job skills and meet educational goals. The lifelong learning program provides educational field trips for seniors.
Specialized services for students who have disabilities include registration assistance, counseling, tutoring, and in-class assistance. The center for learning assistance provides instruction, tutoring, workshops, and supplemental media materials to help improve students' learning skills.
