Welfare Rights Assistance
Provider: ST. BARNABAS SENIOR SERVICES - MID-CITY
The center provides services for older adults age 60 and older who reside in the Westlake/Alvarado area of Los Angeles. Services include case/care management; computer and related technology classes; escort programs; friendly visiting; group counseling and individual counseling that focuses on personal problems or problems related to aging; landlord/tenant assistance; legal counseling for family law issues, government benefits and other legal concerns; representatives payee services; senior center; specialized information and referral; welfare rights assistance; and will preparation assistance.
The center offers case management and protective services on a temporary or ongoing basis for people who need coordination and monitoring of various services. People who need these services are screened and, if accepted, may receive assistance with financial management, in-home supportive services, grocery shopping and delivery, legal assistance, health monitoring, or escort services, and linkage with other resources. The center can become the representative payee or conservator for seniors who are unable to handle their own finances.
The center sponsors a Cyber-Cafe program and provides computer literacy classes for seniors.
