Transitional Housing/Shelter

Provider: SAN FERNANDO VALLEY RESCUE MISSION

The program provides shelter for families with children in Los Angeles County at their Home Again facility. Service includes missions. Children 18 years and younger are accepted and an adult must have full custody of minor children. Men and teenagers are accepted into the program if they are part of the family unit. The length of stay for families is 90 days. Families must be residents of California for at least one year; and family size cannot exceed six members. The program cannot accept people who have felony convictions or people who are active substance abusers; applicants and anyone in the family 14 years and older must pass a drug test upon intake. Applicants cannot be actively fleeing a domestic violence situation. There are no geographic restrictions.

The program can accommodate 90 people. Bedding, blankets and two meals a day are provided. Residents are required to abide by the rules which prohibits smoking on the property and the use of alcohol and drugs. Residents are also required to save 80% percent of their income. Participants must be employed or obtain employment within the first 30 days of the program.

Support services include case management, counseling and life skills classes.
