The department provides fire and rescue services for the City of Alhambra. Services include fire prevention information, fire services, sandbags/water diversion systems, wildland fire preparedness information and safe havens for abandoned newborns. Fire protection is restricted to the city of Alhambra; there are no geographic restrictions for other services.

The department helps homeowners reduce the risk of fire and to be prepared in the event of a fire. When flood warnings have been issued, the department provides sand bags; the bags are empty and must be filled by property owners.

The department's fire services include fire control and suppression, rescue and fire safety. It inspect buildings and property for compliance with fire codes to reduce or eliminate fire hazards. The department enforces related laws, provides fire safety education programs and inspects for fire hazard abatement.
