The organization provides health services related to Alzheimer's disease and other dementias for people of all ages in Los Angeles County and surrounding counties. Services include caregiver counseling, caregiver consultation and support, disease/disability information about Alzheimer's disease and other dementias; health education; legislative advocacy and funding for research; medic alert (Found), outreach programs; social and activity programs; library services and printed materials; and specialized information and referral. There are no geographic restrictions.
The organization promotes research about the causes, funding, treatment and cure for the disease; provides educational programs for the community, media and health care professionals; and advocates on a national level for the long term care needs of people living with the disease and related dementias.
A free helpline is available to provide general information and also referrals for additional services. It offers information, emotional support, and referrals for people with memory loss, caregivers, professionals, and general community members. Available in 190 languages.
The organization offers a Care Counseling program specifically for caregivers which offers one on one support, education, resources, and information from Masters level counselors. Confidential Care Counseling and support helps families and caregivers of those with Alzheimers disease with care planning, education, coping techniques, respite and emergency assistance for low income caregivers. Individual and ongoing sessions are available in person or by telephone, in English and Spanish.
Support groups are open gatherings for people to come together and share their experiences to better cope with and manage the challenges of dementia in a safe environment. They are held at various times and locations, and in multiple languages.
Library services include materials available in different languages .
MedicAlert Found California is a 24-hour, nationwide emergency response service for individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias who may wander and get lost or have a medical emergency. An identification bracelet provides emergency medical information and assists in the event of a wandering incident.
The program also provides specialized information and referral, and care planning through consultation with social workers and/or interns who provide assessments of individual needs.
Workshops are given to promote public awareness and this agency may partner with other agencies to put on seminars or events. These workshops are open to the general public and for people of all ages. In addition, specialized workshops and trainings may be given to professionals on such topics as support group trainings and how to deal with caregivers.
This chapter coordinates with a Safe Return registry for people who have Alzheimer's disease and related disorders; those registered wear ID bracelets which help emergency personnel make identification and return the wearer to their home.
The organization accepts vehicle donations through an organization that will determine whether the vehicle can be sold or used for parts. Vehicles do not have to be running and towing is included.
