Adult Basic Education

The agency provides adult education services to individuals who are not enrolled in a day high school. Services include adult basic education, adult high school diploma programs, adult literacy programs, alternative education, community adult schools, computer and related technology classes, english as a second language, and GED instructions (including preparation and testing). There are no geographic restrictions.
ESL classes are available at five levels. The classes focus on understanding, speaking, reading, and writing English. Basic high school classes which may be taken for credit toward a high school diploma are available include language, GED preparation, literacy, reading, math, science, government, economics, history, geography, and art. The courses are available through classroom instruction and/or the Individualized Learning Center. The Individualized Learning Center allows students to study specific courses at their own rate through self-instructional textbooks, audio-visual lessons and computer instruction. Students can work at the center and complete courses on a credit or non-credit basis.
A Career Technical Education Center is also available which offers study in courses like Business English, Arithmetic, and machines; computer-related skills; clerical training; typing; shorthand; and medical vocabulary and transcription. Computer classes provide hands-on training.
