Domestic Violence Shelters
Provider: ANTELOPE VALLEY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COUNCIL
The program provides shelter services for battered single men, single women, women with children age 18 and younger and men with children age 18 and younger; including gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals, emancipated minors and those who are hearing impaired. Services include domestic violence shelters. The maximum length of stay is 60 days. There are no geographic restrictions.
The program prefers that employed individuals take a two-week leave of absence from their jobs, however, exceptions can be arranged; the length of stay ranges from a few days to two months. The program accepts anyone who has been battered by a spouse, partner, parent or adult child. The shelter will accept pregnant women and people who use wheelchairs.
The shelter provides food, clothing, and transportation. Residents participate in individual and family counseling; support groups; parenting classes; and special programs for children. Support services for residents include TRO assistance, welfare advocacy, and medical and legal assistance. Support groups, individual and group therapy and case management are also available to former residents.
