Prepared Childbirth
Provider: USC VERDUGO HILLS HOSPITAL
The hospital provides health education for people of all ages in Los Angeles county. Services include babysitting classes, breastfeeding classes, early pregnancy classes, expectant/new parent assistance, infant CPR, a parent support group for new mothers, prepared childbirth, and new sibling preparation classes. Age restrictions apply for some services; there are no geographic restrictions.
The babysitting class is for young persons 11 to 15 years old and teaches baby-sitting skills including first aid and infant/child CPR.
Early pregnancy classes help mom and her birth partner understand the changes in her body as she and baby grow. Topics include: nutrition, common discomforts of pregnancy, relaxation techniques, and baby development in the womb.
Prepared childbirth is a five-part series that includes how to know when you're in labor, what to expect in the different stages of labor and delivery, medical and nursing interventions which can be used, casearean birth, and comfort and control measures of relaxation.
An expectant/new parent assistance class provides practical skills for newborn care, including diapering, bathing, taking an infants temperature, safety-related information, and basic first aid. Parents also earn important safety information about baby products.
