Human Rights Groups

Provider: CRITICAL RESISTANCE - OAKLAND

The organization is a human rights group and a national grassroots organization to end the Prison Industrial Complex (PIC). Services include correctional system reform groups and human rights groups. There are no geographic restrictions.

This is a grassroots building organization that does not provide direct services but refers to organizations providing the direct services.

The Prison Industrial Complex (PIC) is a system of surveillance, policing and imprisonment that the government, the prison industry and their interests use as solutions to economic, social and political problems. Critical Resistance is building an international movement to abolish the Prison Industrial Complex (PIC) by members organizing to stop prison construction, mobilize communities most impacted by the prison industrial complex, and finding alternatives to punishment and repression that make communities stable and secure.

Critical Resistance is building a member led and member run grassroots movement to challenge the use of punishment to cure complicated social problems. Policing and imprisonment does not make communities safer. Food, housing and freedom are what create healthy stable neighborhoods and communities.
