Transitional Housing/Shelter (Abused Women)
Provider: 1736 FAMILY CRISIS CENTER - TORRANCE COMMUNITY CENTER
The program provides domestic violence and transitional shelter services for domestic violence victims age 18 and older and their children, boys and girls ages birth through 17. Services are provided through four confidential facilities that provide short and long-term shelter ranging from one month to two years. The program accepts single women and women with children; it considers accepting women younger than age 18 if they are legally emancipated. The shelters can accommodate women who are disabled if they can care for themselves and their children, including women who use wheelchairs.
Services for residents include individual, group and family counseling, legal assistance, children's programs, life skills training, household establishment assistance, parenting education, referrals, advocacy, comprehensive case management and CalWORKs/welfare-to-work services.

Application Procedure
Call to apply; collect calls are accepted. Staff telephone screen all applicants; if the applicant is eligible for shelter services, a face-to-face interview is then scheduled.
