Leadership Development
Provider: CALIFORNIA FOUNDATION FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING CENTERS
The foundation supports and provides services for people with disabilities in the state of California. Services include assistive technology equipment acquisition assistance, assistive technology equipment listing services and assistive technology information; referrals to discounted internet service providers; health/disabilities related volunteer opportunities; internship programs; leadership development; and subject specific public awareness/education related to disabilities issues. There are no geographic restrictions.
The FreedomTech Financial Loan Program provides low-interest financial loans for Californians with disabilities and their families to purchase needed assistive technology when other funding sources are not available. Applicants can request loans from $500 to $15,000 for items including hearing aids, wheelchairs, vehicle modifications, computers/tablets, software and home modification services. Loans may also be used for education and other resources. Adult applicants must be California residents, have a disability or borrow on behalf of an individual with a disability, demonstrate stable employment or income history and have good credit within the past year.
The California Assistive Technology Reuse Coalition (CATRC) provides an electronic assistive technology registry and exchange to find and list gently used devices, place want ads for needed devices and borrow devices from one of California's Device Lending Libraries. The website also provides information for people who want to donate gently used equipment.
The Digital Access Project connects people with disabilities to discounted internet service providers and local digital literacy training programs. The goal is to encourage people with disabilities to use available digital tools to find employment, help their children with homework, access e-commerce or electronic medical records, or even to connect with distant family members.
The Youth Organizing Disabled and Proud Program connects, organizes and educates youth with disabilities. The website provides connects youth with leadership opportunities, social networks, internships, volunteer opportunities and other resources.
