Computer Literacy Training Programs

The library maintains a collection of books, media, magazines, CDs, DVDs, downloadable e-books, audiobooks and music that are available to Los Angeles County residents of all ages. Services include computer classes, foreign language collections, electronic information resources for people with disabilities, general library services, government publications, home library services, large print materials, meeting space, public internet access, wireless internet at all sites, research assistance, and volunteer opportunities. There are no geographic restrictions for most services.

The library also houses government publications (a selective depository for Federal and California), performing arts (art, music, indexed song collection) and special collections (Miller Fine Arts Collection, Petroleum Industry Collection, Long Beach History Collection, Yokkaichi Sister City Collection and Genealogy Collection).

A 286-seat auditorium is available at the Main Library and meeting rooms are available at all locations for a nominal cost. Free books by mail are offered for the people whose ability to leave home is limited; large print books and magazines are available for people who have disabilities. Internet access is available through the library or through the library's web page.

The Homebound Readers Service provides library materials to customers in Long Beach who are confined to their homes by a chronic or temporary illness or injury. Materials are personally selected by a librarian and mailed out every other week.

The library also has a Information Center for People with Disabilities that provides specialized electronic resources and special collections. Stations offer adjustable workstations, alternative keyboards and mice, CCTV magnifiers, reachers/grabbers and assistive technology. Users with disabilities are given 1.5 hours of free computer use per day.

In addition, the library has a makerspace called "The Studio," with access to workshops and equipment to learn, create and make content.
