Emergency Protective Orders

The police department provides law enforcement services for the city of South Gate. Services include abandoned vehicle reporting, police reports, business security evaluations; bicycle safety programs; disaster preparedness for residents; emergency protective orders; law enforcement complaints; Neighborhood Watch Programs; personal safety education for older adults; public awareness/education on a variety of crime issues; property identification equipment; residential security evaluations; and temporary restraining orders services. Services are restricted to residents of the City of South Gate; some programs have income restrictions.

Temporary restraining order assistance is provided on a short term (72 hrs.), emergency basis only. Regular TROs must be applied for at a Superior Court location.

Additional programs include prevention/education programs which focus on child abuse, spouse abuse, and sexual assault which can be presented for schools and community groups; and a variety of programs for children including bicycle safety and the Police Are Your Friends safety program are also available.

The department also supplies copies of the Earthquake Preparedness manual for people who request it.

Crime prevention programs include a Neighborhood Watch program, and information to help prevent bunco/fraud schemes.

The department also conducts residential security programs and provides business security inspections for local businesses.

Operation Identification allows residents to borrow engraving equipment to mark identifying numbers like a driver's license on their valuables.

The Senior Power program provides information about self-protection for seniors.
