Agency staff and invited attorneys teach the training classes. Volunteers are not required to take any tests. The agency does complete background checks with the State Bar of California. New volunteers are asked to commit to either 50 hours of volunteer service over a twelve month period, handling one case in its entirety or limited scope representation for two cases; mentors are available.
