Spouse/Intimate Partner Abuse Counseling
Provider: CROSS CULTURAL EXPRESSIONS COMMUNITY COUNSELING CENTER
The agency provides multi-cultural counseling services for youth age 12 and older, and adults in Los Angeles county. Services include cultural awareness/competencies training for professionals; adolescent/youth, conjoint, family, group and individual cultural counseling; gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender support groups for families/friends of glbt individuals in the Iranian community; multicultural education and spouse/intimate partner abuse counseling for abused adults. There are no geographic restrictions for services.
Cultural competency training is available for mental health interns and professionals. Participants learn about the the key roles that a client's culture, identity, ethnicity, race, gender and other aspects of diversity play in the counseling process. Training programs are ongoing; priority is given to applicants who are registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and speak a second language.
The agency's counseling programs are designed to specifically treat the needs of immigrants, and culturally or linguistically underserved populations including the LGBTQ community, older adults and children or adolescents. Counseling may focus on depression or anxiety; grief, loss or loneliness; career issues; childhood trauma; effective communication; compulsive behaviors; and spiritual growth.
A support group is available for Iranian-American parents of LGBTQ individuals.
