Safety/Disaster Education Volunteer Opportunities

Provider: PROYECTO PASTORAL AT DOLORES MISSION - GUADALUPE HOMELESS PROJECT MEN'S SHELTER

The program provides community services through "Comunidad En Moviemento" or Community in Action, a community service for the East Los Angeles neighborhoods around Dolores Mission Church. Services include leadership development for Hispanic women, a neighborhood improvement group, and safety volunteer opportunities. The program is housed at the Guadalupe Homeless Project site. The service area is 90033 and surrounding zips.

The program provides a forum for action on community problems, such as the children's safe passage to school, and general neighborhood safety issues. The group organizes parents and other concerned adults to escort children on their walk to neighborhood schools. It also encourages community members to assume responsibility for the safety of all the children and people in the community.

The Annual Women's Conference is an all-day conference to empower women and girls in the community.

Comunidad En Movimento (CEM) hold weekly leadership development trainings for local residents to improve their understanding of local issues, improve their English and public speaking skills in order to represent the needs of the community to government and media representatives and to empower women.
