Landlord/Tenant Dispute Resolution

The agency provides housing services to low and moderate income people who live in Culver City. Services include a rental subsidy program through Section 8 and a Redevelopment Agency Rental Assistance Program is ON HOLD; a shared housing program for seniors (one client must be a senior); fair housing counseling, including a mediation board; landlord/tenant dispute resolution services; and a rehabilitation program is ON HOLD. There are income and geographic restrictions. The Section 8 and Rental Assistance Program (RAP) is ON HOLD. It provides rent subsidies for very low and low-income people, people who have disabilities, and for families. Preference is given to applicants who live or work in Culver City; people who live in substandard housing; and people who are being involuntarily displaced or who are spending more than 50% of their family income for rent. The shared housing program is a contract service provided by Alternative Living For Aging and offers to facilitate roommate matches for seniors. The city contracts with Westside Fair Housing Council (see the separate entry) to provide counseling for landlord/tenant issues and complaints of discrimination. The department administers the contract and provides referrals. The Housing Division also provides staff support to the Landlord Mediation Board. Landlord/tenant dispute resolution services include confidential mediation and arbitration services for tenants and landlords of residential rental property in Culver City to help them resolve disputes related to rent increases. The rehabilitation program is ON HOLD, Neighborhood Preservation Program (NPP), provides assistance for low to moderate income Culver City homeowners and owners of rental property whose renters are low to moderate income and who need help to obtain deferred loans, rebates and grants for residential rehabilitation.
