Cultural Transition Counseling

The program provides counseling services for Japanese immigrants and Japanese-Americans in Los Angeles County. The services include phone helpline counseling and cultural transition counseling. Services may include in-person information about and referral to other social service agencies. There are no geographic restrictions.

The NIKKEI Helpline provides confidential, crisis-related information and referral for the Japanese-speaking community. The types of concerns callers may have include family problems, cultural adjustment, loneliness, substance abuse or not knowing where to turn for help. The helpline is answered by center staff during working hours, and by an answering service which connects callers with a trained volunteer during evening and weekend hours.

The Ryugakusei Hotline provides information and referral to Japanese students living in the United States. Trained volunteer assist with topics including mental health issues, landlord-tenant questions, alcohol and drug concerns, immigration regulations, auto accidents and relationship concerns.

The agency also provides individual and family counseling services by appointment.
