This is a national gay and lesbian civil rights advocacy organization which works to eradicate prejudice, discrimination, and violence based on sexual orientation and HIV status. The work of the organization is accomplished through lobbying, grassroots organizing, public education, and direct action. It also offers a variety of publications, sponsors a skills building conference for activists, publishes a newsletter, and serves as an information clearinghouse for gay and lesbian, bisexual, and transgender organizations nationwide.

The organization also lobbies for gay and lesbian civil rights and AIDS-related legislation, tracks voting records of members of Congress on relevant bills, and works with the national and international gay and lesbian and mainstream media on the reporting of gay and lesbian-related news.

Literature published by the organization includes the NGLTF newsletter which reports on current projects and accomplishments of the organization. A list of publications which includes prices and order form is available. The website of the organization contains links to numerous gay and lesbian civil rights organizations.
