Food Vouchers
Provider: HUNGER ACTION LOS ANGELES
The agency provides community action groups services to individuals in Los Angeles County. Services include food vouchers for CalFresh recipients and planning/coordinating/advisor groups on hunger issues. There are no geographic restrictions.
Services include a community based group of low income recipients who meet occasionally in person or by phone conference call to take action on policies to improve nutrition and end hunger in Los Angeles. The public is invited. The program provides direct services through a food voucher program called Market Match, but there is no direct food aid provided.
The Market Match program is restricted to recipients of CalFresh (SNAP). Vouchers can be obtained at 24 farmers markets including Adams/Vermont, Bixby Knolls, Downtown LA, East Hollywood, East LA, Gardena, Huntington Park, Downtown Long Beach, Mar Vista, Monterey Park, Newhall, North Hollywood, Pasadena, Pomona, Rosemead, Santa Monica, South Gate, Wellington Square, and West Covina. New locations may open during the year: call for update. The program gives eligible benefits recipients $1 to $10 worth of vouchers in exchange for their spending an equal amount at the Farmers' Markets. The vouchers can be obtained weekly only at the market and can be spent only on fruits and vegetables at the same market they are acquired. The voucher amounts can vary according to available funding.
The "Peoples Guide" is a publication explaining how to receive benefits and participants rights and responsibilities for many programs including CalWORKs, CalFresh, unemployment, job training, housing assistance, Medi-Cal, affordable health care, General Relief and others. Copies are free for low income individuals and can be mailed or picked up at the office.
