The department provides law enforcement services for the city of Santa Monica. Services include abandoned vehicle reporting/removal, adult fingerprinting, business security evaluations, crime prevention, fraud prevention, law enforcement complaints, municipal police, personal safety education for older adults, police reports, residential security evaluations, school safety education, sexual assault prevention, temporary restraining order assistance, and traffic safety education/inspections services. The service area is restricted to the city of Santa Monica.
Livescan fingerprinting is available for adult employment and citizenship/immigration identification and background checks.
Temporary restraining order assistance is provided on a short term (72 hrs), emergency basis only. Regular TROs must be applied for at a Superior Court location.
The department also provides business and residential security evaluations for people whose property has been burglarized.

Application Procedure
In an emergency call 9-1-1. Call or walk in for non-emergency services or for information. Police reports can be requested by mail only and picked up in person; victims or their authorized representatives may obtain a copy of a police report.
Fees
There are no fees most services; there is a $24 rolling fee for fingerprinting; in addition, the FBI or DOJ impose separate fees.
