Transitional Housing/Shelter

Provider: SALVATION ARMY - THE WAY IN

The program provides a transitional shelter for young adults, ages 18 to 24, who are in Los Angeles County. Services include transitional shelter and independent living instruction. Referrals may be made by social service agencies or shelters. Services are for youth not restricted to Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Independent Living program. The maximum length of stay is twenty-one months. There are no geographic restrictions.

Shelter residents participate in an independent living program that teaches life skills. Participants who are not working are assisted in finding employment or encouraged to finish their education. Applicants are interviewed by the director and a staff psychologist, and must have a TB test and physical examination. Residents share an apartment with a person of the same sex.

There is an on-site manager, a case manager and a therapist who work with the residents. Secondary services include bus fare, case management, counseling, life skills, employment assistance and other support services.
