AIDS/HIV/STD Prevention Supplies
Provider: EAST VALLEY COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER - WEST COVINA
The center provides HIV/AIDS services for people of all ages who live, primarily, in the East San Gabriel Valley. Services include AIDS screening and treatment, HIV/AIDS prevention and L A County contract clinic services for AIDS/HIV patients. Services are also provided at the agency's East Valley Community Health Center - Pomona location; see the separate entry. Age restrictions apply for some services; there are no geographic restrictions.
The agency also offers the HIV/AIDS Pep/PrEP program that provides emergency post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) treatment for people who have had a high risk exposure to HIV/AIDS, and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) treatment for people who have high-risk HIV/AIDS exposure. PEP treatment includes a 28 day course of antiretroviral medication, usually in pill form. Treatment must start within 72 hours of exposure. PrEP includes a daily medication to reduce the risk of HIV infection.
HIV services include outpatient medical care, case management, mental health services (individual and group), nutrition and psychiatric services. Anonymous/confidential testing for the HIV antibody is offered by appointment for people age 12 and older from any geographical area. Pre-test counseling and education about the test and AIDS are provided; the person returns in a week, by appointment, for the results and post-test counseling and referral, if necessary.
The agency participates in the L A County Healthy Way L A Contract Clinic program with additional support from the Ryan White Foundation. People who have AIDS/HIV and who qualify for Healthy Way LA may receive primary care at this and one other EVCHC site. The program provides primary care health coverage for low income people ages 19 to 64, who are L A County Residents, US Citizens, or are legal immigrants and who are not eligible under insurance plans, or other third party coverage such as Medi-Cal. Income must be at or below 133 % of Federal Poverty Level.
