Pesticide/Herbicide Control

The agency provides consumer assistance services to individuals in Los Angeles County. Services include agricultural produce regulation, bee control information and referral, egg products regulation, government consumer protection agencies, pest exclusion, pesticide/herbicide control, weed abatement/brush control, weights and measures and wildlife safety education. There are certain geographic restrictions for weed abatement and coyote management services.
The agency provides consumer assistance and works to improve the environmental quality through enforcement of Federal, State, and County laws and regulations. It ensures the safe and wholesome supply of food and water; protecting consumers and businesses from fraud; preventing the misuse of pesticides; managing and excluding pests; minimizing fire hazards from weeds and brush; and providing useful consumer and agricultural information.
The agency also provides information on coyote management services and responds to inquiries from residents in unincorporated Los Angeles county.
The agency enforces state laws which are designed to prevent the introduction and spread of injurious insects, weeds and plant diseases; maintains quality and prevents deception in handling and sale of fruits, vegetables, eggs and packaged commodities; and regulates the use of pesticides.
Other services include abating hazardous weeds or brush on vacant property; abating bee diseases; controlling noxious weeds and pest animals; compiling crop production data; and administering the nursery inspection/certification program.
The Bee Swarm Program provides bee control and specialized information and referral to residents of Los Angeles County. The office provides referrals to the toll-free Los Angeles County Bee Service Hotline, for people who have bee swarms in landscaped areas. The agency does not directly remove the bees.
The agency provides specialized information and referral services via the Africanized Honey Bee (AHB) Information and Public Outreach program. This program offers educational brochures, manuals, and pamphlets as well as other resource materials that discuss the hazards of the Africanized Bee.
